Basketball TV Schedule

Basketball TV Schedule is produced to provide basketball fans with current information on upcoming and sometimes past NBA schedules (with a little college basketball schedule information thrown in when we have time). The primary purpose of this site is to find and publish information on preseason, regular season, and NBA playoff schedules that you will find useful. The NBA season typically kicks off a little sooner than it is doing this year due to the lockout. For the 2012 NBA season, the first games will be held on Christmas day after a shortened training camp and preseason schedule held earlier in the month. The total season will be shortened with the number of back-to-back games increased as compared to previous years. As a result, many fans believe this may be an equalizer for younger teams who typically have difficultly regularly competing with more established teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Boston Celtics. Of course, the converse argument, is that teams such as these and the Miami Heat will benefit more from the younger teams not having as much preseason time to work on skills and teamwork. For the 2012 NBA Season, there are a total of 30 teams across 6 divisions and three conferences. There are no planned location moves for the upcoming season or near term, but every season we seem to hear rumors about Sacramento and New Orleans moving, so this season may not prove too different. After the excitement of March Madness subsides in early April, focus quickly turns to the NBA playoffs schedule. One nice side effect of the lockout this season, is that the schedules are more compressed which will result in the season not seeming quite so long. NBA Preseason games do commence on December 16thwith four total games. There will be two days of no games in between the NBA preseason and the 2012 Season opening games scheduled on Christmas Day. One of the featured matchups of the opening day games is the Miami Heat traveling to play at the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks will unveil their 2011 championship banner, but will not award the championship rings to the players until a point to be determined for later in the season. Mavs owner, Mark Cuban, is working with the team to determine the design, and type of rings to award, with some rumors floating around that he didn’t want to award rings at all to the team. Instead, preferring something more unique. But that has nothing to do with schedules….

NBA Championships

At the end of the season, the league holds a four round, seeded tournament to determine the season’s champion. The Dallas Mavericks won the team’s first championship at the end of the 2011 season. The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers; however, are the gold standard in the NBA with the Celtics having 17 championships against only four losses in the finals. The Lakers have 16 with 15 losses in the finals. The Celtics last championship was in 2008 and the Lakers last won in 2010. The Chicago Bulls are next in line with the 6 championships that Michael Jordan won during the 90’s while the San Antonio Spurs are in 4th with 4 total championships (last one was in 2007). Miami Heat fans hope that the “Big 3” can bring the franchise their second championship with the only other victory coming in 2006 (lost in the championship game in 2011).
